This is a question I get asked time and time again, ‘Why Should I Use Squarespace?’.

Ultimately, what Website CMS you choose depends on the requirements for your website, how important it is for you to be able to manage and update your site yourself, whether you need a Membership, E-Commerce store, or your budget for the project etc. In my opinion Squarespace is a pretty strong all rounder on all of these areas, so is the system I primarily work with.

Below I’ve summarised the top reasons Squarespace is my CMS of choice and I’ve also asked a selection of Squarespace Designers & Developers why they use Squarespace.

Easy to Edit Website

My clients are often surprised at how easily they can jump into the editor and make content edits, such as editing copy, switching an image, or uploading a blog post themselves post launch. The Squarespace editor is well designed and so easy to navigate.

Not only does it save my clients money, by not having to hire me every time they want to make a small change, but it also leaves them feeling in full control of their site, knowing they can maintain it themselves.

I’ve had a large number of clients switch to Squarespace from Wordpress or Wix where they say making simple changes such as editing copy felt impossible. The backend of these systems is not as self explanatory and they get very overwhelmed.

all in one platform

Squarespace provides the functionality to add a Store, Member Areas & Courses to your site. Along with also offering Email Marketing, Scheduling & Domain Management. Rather than having to sign up to multiple services to gain this functionality Squarespace offers all of these. You still have the option to use third party platforms if you’d prefer but the ability to manage all of these areas under one ‘roof’ is preferable.

No Coding Necessary (Unless You Want To)

If you’re wanting to build your website yourself, with no coding experience, you can! Using Squarespace’s drag and drop editor and built in Style settings you’re able to create a beautiful, professional website without touching a line of code.

On the other hand, if you want to push the boundaries of Squarespace, you can! With the Custom CSS & Code Injection areas Squarespace make it very easy to add some additional styling or to install a third party plugin.

No Costly Maintenance Contracts

Once you’ve built your site, purchased your subscription and set your site to Public, that’s all you have to do. You won’t need to perform any updates, or worry about security, Squarespace handles all of this.

Often people using Wordpress end up in monthly payment plans with developers ensuring their plugins are updated and maintaining the security of their site. Those who don’t keep this up are easily hacked - I’ve seen this happen to a number of people. With Squarespace this isn’t necessary. You’ll only need to pay a developer if you want some additional pages / functionality added to the site further down the line.

SQUARESPACE COMMUNITy

If you want an extra hand with building your dream site there is a huge community of Squarespace designers & developers. You can find developers offering Site Builds, Pre-Built Templates & Custom Coding to develop unique components for your site.

The Squarespace Forum is a library of previously asked questions with the community providing feedback and answering each others questions. Reply times are amazing, and people are often offering assistance within the first couple of hours of a question being asked.

What The Experts Say

Christy Price

Squarespace Website Designer

"Squarespace was a great fit because you don’t have to worry about updating plug-ins or all the security issues you have to worry about with WordPress. I also wanted a platform where my clients could update small things on their own easily. Squarespace fit the bill for that perfectly as well, which saves them time and money, and frees me up to do more of the stuff that I like to do as a web designer."

Dylan Winn-Brown

Winn-Brown & Co

"Squarespace offers us as designers the ability to design, build and launch websites in an extremely efficient manner. There's no need to worry about hosting, security, plugins or ongoing maintenance – it just works. For our clients, it offers a content management system that's easy to intuitive, easy to understand and scalable - not to mention that wide range of additional features it offers like email marketing, members areas and ecommerce. It's more than a tool to build websites with, it's an ecosystem."

Will Myers

Squarespace Developer

"I’ve been working in Squarespace, almost exclusively, for the past 8 years. I went with Squarespace back then because it was the best platform at balancing ease-of-use with design aesthetic, for the “normie” non-website person. With Squarespace, you don’t have to be an expert in web development or a graphic design degree to put a beautiful website up on the internet. Today, I’m very much not a “normie” non-website person, I’ve uncovered an interest in coding and my wife and I run a business that relies on coding expertise. And still, my number one consideration, when helping a friend evaluate a platform, is how easy it will be for them to update their website without making it look bad, and Squarespace is still far and away the best platform for that."

Leslie Mello

Brand Designer

"I love using Squarespace because it’s built on solid design principles. Their templates are elegant and uncluttered, making it easy to create a beautiful website without any unnecessary gimmicks. It’s the perfect platform for anyone who wants a professional-looking site without the headache of complicated design tools. It is also super easy for my clients to update, unlike Wordpress and saves them so much time, money and hassle in the long run."
