Using Affiliate Links In Squarespace
Disclaimer: This article contains affiliate links. If you follow the link and make a purchase I may earn commission at no cost to you.
Affiliate Links are a great way to earn some additional income from work you’re probably already doing. If you’re regularly recommending your favourite brands / products via your blog or social media it’s worth checking if they offer an affiliate scheme. Once you’re blog is published your affiliate link is out there forever to be used!
WHAT IS AN AFFILIATE LINK?
An affiliate link is a unique url to a specific webpage / product where if a user then makes a purchase you earn some commission. How much commission you earn depends on the individual company.
Tidying Up Affiliate Links
More often than not the url of the affiliate links are super long and contain lots of random characters. Not a very tempting link to follow. Luckily there’s numerous web applications that provide a solution for this, I use Short.io to create links on my own subdomain which look a lot more trustworthy and appealing to follow.
Example
Original Link - https://www.will-myers.com/products/p/affiliate-link-genie?peachs_apc=abi-bacon
Tidied Link - http://link.abibacon.com/affiliate
What Are ‘sponsored’ & ‘nofollow’ attributes?
Google asks that we add sponsored & nofollow attributes to our affiliate links in order to let them know that we’re going to earn something from it. Not following these guidelines could lead to being penalized by Google. An issue with this is Squarespace doesn’t provide a built in way to add these attributes to our links.
