Adding Sections To Blog Posts In Squarespace

Squarespace Blog posts follow a different structure to the rest of the pages on our sites. We don’t have access to Fluid Engine on these pages, instead they still use Classic Editor. This means that we also can’t add additional sections to break the page up or take advantage of auto list sections.

However, there is a way around this, we can actually have our Blog Posts linked to a standard page, containing as many sections as you wish.

Source URL

In the Blog Posts settings you will see a field for ‘Source URL’ here you want to put the URL of the page you’ve created. Then you want to make sure you’ve enabled the ‘Link Post Title to Source URL’ button. Now when the user selects your Blog post from the Collection page they will be directed to the separate page you’ve put together.

Things To Consider

There are a couple of things to consider when using this method. First off, if somebody enters the url of the blog post directly into their browser they will be taken to the blog post, not the page you’re directing to, so I’d recommend either placing the content also on the post or having a link to the page you’d like them to view.

Secondly, this solution is best suited to collections with a low number of posts, as doing this with a larger collection would lead to having lots and lots of pages and could get a little bit messy.
