The Latest From Squarespace
I’ve debated writing blog posts for the longest time now, and I’m slowly giving in to their significance in getting your site seen. I recommend blogging to all of my clients, however it is very daunting. So hey, I’m Abi and I’ve been building Squarespace sites for 5 years now.
I just couldn’t ignore the latest updates from Squarespace in the past few weeks, they’ve been working their socks off and made some very exciting changes which I’m going to run through here.
Image Block Effects -
Previously Image Effects have only been available on Background Images, but with this update Squarespace has opened this up to include Image Blocks. There’s five different available effects, Liquid, Film Grain, Parallax, Circles & Lines, each having individual settings that you can tweak to your liking. In my opinion the most exciting is the Parallax effect, something designers have been desperate to get back since the move to Squarespace 7.1.
Fluid Engine Multiselect Resize -
We’re one step closer to being able to group elements within the editor. With this update you can select multiple blocks within a section and resize them all at the same time to maintain the ratio between them.
I haven’t used this feature yet but I’m sure its going to come in very handy!
Save & Exit -
This one I have mixed feelings on. On one hand changing the ‘Save & Exit’ and “Discard Changes’ options to ‘Save’ & ‘Exit’ is super useful as when making a large amount of changes to a page you can easily save your progress as you go, without being chucked out of the editor each time. However, I now find that when I’m flicking between the editor and either the Code Injection areas or the Custom CSS panel I have an extra click, I have to ‘Save’ and then ‘Exit’. In an ideal world, the options I’d like would be ‘Save’, ‘Save & Exit’ & ‘Discard & Exit'.
For now this feature has to specifically turned on in the Circle Labs menu.
ReCaptcha v3 -
This update, which is now live on all sites, is game changing. Users will no longer have to spend their time ‘selecting all images containing bridges’ or ticking a box to say they aren’t a robot etc and instead the ReCaptcha will be working silently in the background without altering the user experience. This is also a huge bonus design wise.
That’s it from me for now, I’m off to enjoy the small bit of sun we have here in the UK whilst it lasts! If you have any Squarespace related questions reach out via the Contact page or comment below.
