Whilst Squarespace is ever-evolving and adding new functionality sometimes you need a little helping hand in adding some components you wish were built in to the platform.
These are the plugins I use most frequently when building client sites and only require minimal coding knowledge.
1 - Custom Table Block Plugin
Creator - SquareWebsites
I still can’t believe Squarespace don’t have their own solution for adding Tables to your website, but luckily SquareWebsites have this plugin. This plugin adds a Table ‘Block’ to your inbuilt block menu allowing you to easily add them throughout your site. You have the option to either manually add the data or pull it in from a csv file or a google spreadsheet.
2 - Lightbox Anything
Creator - SQSP Themes
This plugin does just that, it enables you to turn ANYTHING into a Lightbox, a button, an image, anything. I find this super useful for either opening videos in a lightbox or for size guides on product pages.
3 - Universal Filter
Creator - SquareWebsites
If you’ve got an eCommerce shop on your Squarespace website this plugin is a must have. It provides more advanced Filtering options than Squarespace does by default. The installation of this one is slightly more fiddly and I’d recommend having prior experience with JS and CSS, or hiring a developer to install it for you.
4 - Section Loader Supreme
Creator - Will Myers
Whilst Squarespace has now created Saved Sections, these still don’t provide you with the ability to update the section once and for all instances of it to be automatically updated. Section Loader Supreme does exactly this, you can easily pull in a section from somewhere else on your site, without having to rebuild it each time, and then update it once for the changes to populate across all instances. The plugin is especially useful on Blog posts where you can’t add page sections like you can on standard pages, Section Loader Supreme works by using a Code Block allowing you to take the design of your Blog Posts to the next level.
5 - Background Captions
Creator - Will Myers
I will admit I’m a little biased with this one, because I developed it myself in partnership with Will Myers who I’ve been working alongside for a little over 18 months now. The Background Captions plugin allows you to easily add a caption to a background image of a section on your website. This could be used to add a information about the location of the image, or to give credit to a photographer in a stylish way that doesn’t effect the sleekness of your website.
These are only a very small number of plugins available to Squarespace users, but they’re the ones I use most regularly. If you purchase any of these and would like help installing them on your website please get in contact here.
